What mandatory safety signs are required in a grocery store

  • Emergency Exit Signs (FB16): These signs must be clearly visible and indicate the location of emergency exits.

  • Prohibition Signs (PV1): Signs that indicate actions that are not permitted, such as “No Smoking” or “No Eating”.
  • Warning Signs: Signs that warn of hazards or a hazardous condition that is not likely to be life-threatening, such as “Slippery When Wet” or “Caution: Wet Floor”.
  • Danger Signs (WW42): Signs that provide warning when a hazard or a hazardous condition is likely to be life-threatening, such as “Danger: High Voltage”
  • General Information Signs: These signs communicate information of a general nature, such as housekeeping or company practices
  • Mandatory Signs: These signs specify an instruction that must be carried out, such as “Keep Doors Closed” or “Wear Safety Goggles”

These signs must be compliant with the South African National Standards (SANS) and in the correct position as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
